The Parker Broncs defeated the Glendale Prep Griffins, 62-12, Friday, Nov. 6 in Glendale. The game pretty well decided the 2020 title for the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s 2A Agua Fria football region. The Broncs have now clinched at least a tie for the title, even if they lose their final game to Trivium Prep Nov. 13 and Glendale Prep wins. They would give the two teams 4-1 records against their region opponents. However, the Broncs defeated Glendale Prep, which will figure into any tie-breaker. They will also have the better record against 2A teams.

Coach Jeston Lotts said the Broncs won by playing their style of football.

“We played very physical football,” he said. “Our offensive and defensive lines were tough, and we ran the ball very well.”

Lotts singled out two players for particular praise. He said Cameron Poole was assigned to the Griffins’ top wide receiver, and he did a fine job. He said Kooper Maniaci played well at an unfamiliar position:  defensive lineman.

“We had him there so we could do what we wanted to do,” Lotts said. “He’d never played there before. He did a really good job.”

Overall, Lotts said the Broncs did what they wanted to do in the game.

“We played our style of football,” he said. “Rock ‘em, sock ‘em football. This is a great bunch of young men to be around.”

The Broncs are now 4-0 against their region opponents and 4-1 overall. Their only loss was their first game of the season, which they lost to Wickenburg. They are alone in first place in the 2A Agua Fria.

The AIA had not released the rankings as of press time. They said on the AzPreps365 website they will not be releasing those rankings until Nov. 10. They said rankings are not released until all teams have played at least five games. With all the cancellations this season, they said only 73 percent of the 145 eligible schools have completed five games.

The Broncs will close out their abbreviated 2020 regular season this Friday, Nov. 13 when they go on the road to play the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights. Trivium Prep is 2-2 in the 2A Agua Fria and 2-4 overall. They’re coming off a 30-22 loss to Tonopah Valley Nov. 6.
