Demi Durham of the Parker Broncs’ volleyball team wasn’t named to either the 3A West all-region first or second teams, but she still won the top recognition in the region. The coaches and athletic directors named her the 3A West Player of the Year for 2020.
In a season that started late and was shortened by the coronavirus pandemic, Durham was outstanding on both offense and defense. An outside hitter, she was often the team leader for kills in the matches they played. She would often leap high to send the ball over the net.
Parker’s Haley Kidd was named to the first all-region team as a setter.
The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks won the region regular season title, and they won two of the top honors. Dusti Williamson was named Coach of the Year and Rori Martinez was named Offensive Player of the Year. Gabreya Garcia was of Bourgade Catholic was named Defensive Player of the Year.
It was a season where the Broncs went 8-2 in their region and 13-3 overall. They placed second to Yuma Catholic in the 3A West. They won a state tournament play-in match against the Safford Bulldogs, but lost in the first round of the playoffs to Arizona College Prep. They also lost to Arizona College Prep in the regular season. The only other school to defeat the Broncs in the regular season was Yuma Catholic, and they did it twice.
There were several Broncs who received Honorable Mentions in the 3A West:
