The Pop Harvey Aquatic Association wants to provide quality swim instruction for all the young people of Parker and the surrounding area. To that end, they will be holding the annual Esther Beaver Memorial Swim-A-Thon June 24 at the pool at the Kofa Inn.
Each child who participates will be given a pledge sheet and asked to find people, such as family and friends, to make a donation. Every child that turns in a pledge sheet and money by June 23 will have an opportunity to swim, kick board, or noodle across the pool for several victory laps. Swim instructors will assist. Each child will be awarded a certificate for his or her participation.
“Funding is hurting as we wind down from a successful summer,” the aquatic association said in a statement. “This will help us make out goal of having six weeks of swimming. Our goal was to provide quality classes; mission accomplished. We will be fund-raising this winter, but, in the meantime, funds are needed over the last couple of weeks to support the teen lifeguard and swim instructors who work so hard in the pool.”
Esther Beaver was a former Parker Mayor who was devoted to the children of the community and understood the benefits of learning to swim.
