The Arizona Interscholastic Association has released the revised high school volleyball schedules for the fall 2020 sports season. Like other sports, the number of games has been cut and the season is starting almost a month later than was originally planned. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic and its effects on local schools around the state.
Several schools, mostly in Tribal areas in the northern part of the state, have already cancelled their fall sports seasons for 2020. Tribal communities, particularly the Navajos, have been hit hard by the pandemic. Several northern counties in the state have had rates of infection far above the national and state averages.
The Broncs will be in the 3A West for 2020. Their region rivals include the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks, the Kingman Bulldogs, and the Tonopah Valley Phoenix. A fifth school that had been in the region, the Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies of Buckeye, is one of the schools that has cancelled their fall sports season. They are the only school in metro Phoenix to cancel fall sports completely.
The AIA has produced a staggered schedule for the reintroduction of fall sports. Volleyball practices may start Aug. 31. The first games can be held Sept. 21. The State Championships will be held Nov. 12-21.
The Broncs will not be playing in any tournaments during the regular season.
The following is the current schedule as posted on the AzPreps365 website. Like everything else in this current school year, there will likely be changes. Home dates are in bold and region games are marked with a “-R.”
