The Parker Broncs track team was one of the schools that participated in the “Last Chance Qualifier Track Meet” held April 18 at Thunderbolt Middle School in Lake Havasu City. The meet was a “last chance” for athletes to qualify for the state 2A meet, which will be held May 5-6 at Mesa Community College.
Broncs Track Coach Robert Briggs said 12 boys and four girls had provisionally qualified for the state meet.
On the boys’ side, Axel Gonzalez and Christian Lopez placed 10th and 11th in the 100-meters with times of 12.04 seconds and 12.15 second, respectively. Lopez also placed ninth in the 200-meters with a time of 24.56 seconds.
In the 400-meters, Parker’s James Parks set a personal record as he placed fifth with a time of 54.21 seconds. Jason Rodriguez placed 10th at 1:00.15 and Julio Saucedo placed 11th at 1:00.33.
The Broncs placed in the top ten in the 800-meters: Manuel Najera was third at 2:12.48, William Gana was seventh at 2:26.50, and Seth Lee was 10th at 2:33.87.
Isidro Rodriguez placed fourth in the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:02.96.
The boys’ 4 x 100 relay team of Christian Lopez, Axel Gonzalez, Jesus Saucedo and James Parks placed third as they came in at 47.15 seconds.
In field events, Juan Sandoval placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 121 feet-3 inches.
Billy Adams placed second in the pole vault as he cleared 10 feet-7 inches.
The long jump saw three Broncs place in order. Jason Amador was eighth at 16 feet-10 inches, Manuel Najera was ninth at 16 feet-7.5 inches, and Austin Allen was tenth at 16 feet-7 inches.
Juan Sandoval placed second in the triple jump at 37 feet-0.5 inches, while Jason Amador placed third at 36 feet-8 inches.
On the girls’ side, Rebecca Bowen placed sixth in both the 100-meters and the 200-meters. Her times were 13.98 seconds and 29.04 seconds, respectively.
In the 800-meters, Akira Yamasaki placed eighth at 3:05.96, while Alana Gillespie came in ninth with a time of 3:07:32.
The girls’ 4 x 100 team of Amaris Brooks, Claudia Snyder, Haley Kidd and Rebecca Bowen placed fourth with a time of 1:00.43
Two Parker girls placed well in the shot put. Demi Durham made a toss of 28 feet to come in second, while Misti Poolaw’s throw at 27 feet-2.5 inches was good enough for fourth place.
The Broncs have one last track meet in the regular season. It’s the Last Knight Qualifier, and it will be held Tuesday, April 24 at Westview High School in Avondale.
