Parker Broncs

UPDATE:  Parker High Athletic Director Dan Maya told the Pioneer Sept. 28 that the match that evening with the Veritas Prep Falcons will be played.

The players on the Parker Broncs girls’ varsity volleyball team are eager to get their season restarted, but it’s not certain if they’ll be ready to go again by Tuesday, Sept. 28. Head Coach Marie Maya said some of the players and coaches are still showing symptoms of being ill with the coronavirus.

The Broncs has their season put on hold for 10 days after five players tested positive for the virus. As a result, the match scheduled for Sept. 17 at River Valley in Mohave Valley was canceled. The home match scheduled for Sept. 21 against the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks was also canceled. This would’ve been the Broncs first match against a 3A West opponent. The Broncs also missed appearing in the Epic Tourneys Volleyball Invitational this past weekend at Arizona State University in Tempe.

The Broncs’ next match will be a home match against the Veritas Prep Falcons on Tuesday, Sept. 28. The varsity is set for 6 p.m.

Maya said she’s not sure if the team will be ready to play on Tuesday. She added they should be ready for later in the week. They’re scheduled to play the Kingman Bulldogs on Thursday, Sept. 30 in Kingman.

“We’re not really sure on Tuesday,” Maya said. “It’s still up in the air.”

After having their season on hold for over a week, Maya said the team is eager to get back to playing volleyball.

“We need to get back to school,” she said. “The girls want to get started.”

If the Tuesday match is played, the varsity is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The Broncs next home date will be Thursday, Oct. 7, when they face another 3A West rival, the Tonopah Valley Phoenix. The varsity is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The Broncs are 0-0 against their 3A West rivals, 1-1 against 3A teams, and 3-2 overall. They are currently third in the 3A West. Here are the standings in the 3A West, with teams listed by record in the region, record against 3A teams, and overall record:

Odyssey Institute:  1-0, 3-5, 3-6

Yuma Catholic:  0-0, 1-0, 5-1

PARKER:  0-0, 1-1, 3-2

Tonopah Valley:  0-1, 2-3, 2-7
