The 30th annual Buckskin Mountain Desert Dash was held on Saturday, Feb 13. The event is put on each year by the Parker Rotary Club, and the finish line is hosted by Ken Coughlin, owner of the world famous Desert Bar. This year’s numbers were down, as expected, but there were still 280 entries.
The course was 5 kilometers (3.2 miles) long and started on Cienega Springs road, ending at the Desert Bar. Some rode bicycles while others ran and the majority walked. Once everyone arrived at the finish line, drawings were held for numerous prizes donated by local merchants, with a 32-inch TV as the grand prize.
Proceeds from the event go to PAACE to help fund the 9th Street Player’s Club, Parker Rotary Club scholarships and other Parker Rotary Club projects.
Anyone who preregistered and was not able to participate can pick up their Desert Dash T-shirts at the Parker Chamber of Commerce located at 1217 S. California Avenue in Parker.
In a prepared statement, the organizers said, “The Parker Rotary Club thanks everyone who registered for this year’s Desert Dash, and we hope to see all of you again next year.”
Thanks is also given to all those who provided support for the event.
