The 41st Annual Take a Kid Fishing event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at the lagoons in La Paz County Park. Families are encouraged to come out and spend the day fishing. There is no fee, and the requirements for a fishing license will be waived for this event.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., with fishing starting at 11. Fishing will continue until 2:15 p.m., when there will be drawings for prizes.

Participants can spend the day fishing. There will be free hot dogs and soft drinks from the Parker Police Explorers and the Parker Lions Club. There will be a station for cleaning the fish after they’ve been caught. There also will be drawing for prizes in the afternoon.

Last year’s event was held on a cloudy day. Even with that, more than 400 young people were registered for the event. There were also many adults involved.

The event was begun by the late Mike Thomas. The event is currently organized by Walter Shontz. He said the whole purpose of the event was for families to have fun together, and fishing in a good way to do that.
