The Buckskin Mountain Desert Dash will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18.   This year will be the 32nd consecutive year that the event has taken place.  The event is your choice of a 5k (3.2 mile) bicycle ride, walk or run.  The course is on the graded Cienega Springs Road and finishes up at the Nellie E. Saloon at the world famous Bar in the Desert.  The Desert Dash is put on by the Parker Rotary Club, and the finish line is hosted by Ken Coughlin, owner of the Desert Bar.

Although we do keep track of your times, it is not a competition and no awards are given for top finishers.  You will get a beautiful Desert Dash T-shirt and will be eligible for drawings held at the finish line.  Most of the many prizes are donated by local merchants and the grand prize is a 32-inch TV.  You must be present to win.

Registration and parking are two miles in on Cienega Springs Road and registration begins at 7 a.m. and the start time is 9 a.m. The entry fee if mailed in before Feb. 1 is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12.  You can also pre-register and pay your entry fee at the Parker Chamber of Commerce, which is located in downtown Parker at the intersection of California and 12th Street.

After Feb. 1, the entry fee is $30.00.  Entries done at the Chamber of Commerce must be completed and turned in by noon on Friday, Feb. 10. You will still be able to sign-up at the registration area on the morning of the event.

When the Desert Dash first started over 30 years ago, less than one hundred people participated.  The number of entries has steadily increased over the years, and for the past several years the number of entries has been between four and five hundred.  Proceeds from the event help the Parker Rotary Club with numerous projects, including scholarships to local students.

If you have any questions, contact Mike Burke at, or call the Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce & Tourism at 928-669-2174.

We hope to see you at the Desert Dash on Saturday, Feb. 18.
