Parker’s Alexis Pena (right) takes her lead off first base after she smacked a single against the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights April 16 in Parker. Pena’s hit was one of only two the Broncs got in a 10-0 loss.

As they come into the final week and last game of the regular season, the Parker Broncs’ softball team is about to complete their best season in years. With one game left, their season closer against the Heritage Academy Heroes of Laveen on April 23 in Parker, the Broncs can still finish the season with an even record in their region and an even record against other 2A teams.

Ranked No. 22 by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, the Broncs still have a shot at making the state playoffs.

The Broncs’ 7-3 win over the Arizona Lutheran Coyotes April 9 has come back to haunt the Coyotes. They’re in second place in the 2A West, and they had a showdown with the first place Trivium Prep Crimson Knights April 18. The Coyotes lost, 18-0. This gave the Crimson Knights a record of 7-0 in region play, while the Coyotes are 4-2.

If the Coyotes hadn’t lost to Parker, their region record would be 5-1, and, with two games left, they could still tie for the region title if they won their last two games, one of which will be against Trivium Prep. However, as a result of the loss to Parker, the Coyotes have been eliminated in the race for the 2A West region title.

The Crimson Knights have two more games left. They’ll face Arizona Lutheran April 23 and ASU Preparatory Academy April 25. They are 16-0 overall as of April 21, and they have a chance to complete an undefeated season. They are ranked No. 2 in the state.

The Coytoes are ranked No. 8 in the state.

The Broncs had a split week, losing to Trivium Prep 10-0 April 16 at home and then defeated Heritage Academy 18-10 April 18 on the road. They are now 3-4 in the 2A West, and 6-5 against other 2A teams. Their final game of the regular season will be April 23, when they play Heritage Academy at home. The Broncs still have a chance at an even record in their region and an even record against other 2A teams.

The Broncs still have a shot at the state playoffs, as they are ranked No. 22. Although they are only 2-5 in 2A West region play, Heritage Academy is ranked No. 18 because they have a better record than Parker against other 2A teams (9-5) and a better overall record (9-6).
