The Parker Broncs’ boys varsity basketball team passed one of two major tests they were facing this week when they defeated the Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes, 70-64, in overtime Jan. 15 in Phoenix. The Coyotes had been ranked No. 4 in the 2A Conference in the state. Parker Coach Rolland Hansen said they would likely be the toughest 2A team they’d face this season.

The Broncs are now 2-0 against their 2A West opponents and are in first place in the region. They are 5-0 against other 2A teams and 8-2 overall. They have moved up to being ranked 13th in the state.

The second major test the Broncs will face this week will be Friday, Jan. 18, when they take on the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights at home. This game is part of a double-header with the girls, so the starting time of 7 p.m. is approximate.

On the girls’ side, the Broncs fell to Arizona Lutheran, 40-34, Jan. 15. The girls are now 1-1 in the 2A West, 2-3 against 2A teams, and 4-6 overall. They’re ranked 23rd in the state. They’ll face the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at home.
