The Parker Broncs varsity football team got an unexpected night off Sept. 17 when their scheduled road game with the San Pasqual Warriors of Winterhaven, Calif. was canceled. Parker Coach Jeston Lotts said this was due to San Pasqual not having enough players. He added this was not due to the coronavirus.
The Broncs were coming off a 34-28 overtime win over the Wickenburg Wranglers Sept. 10 in Wickenburg. The team won back the firefighter’s axe that is the symbol of the rivalry between the two schools. Parker High School will have the axe and be able to display it until their game with Wickenburg in 2022.
When asked about the cancelation of the game with San Pasqual, Lotts said, “We’re already getting ready for Antelope.”
The Broncs will return to action this Friday, Sept. 24, when they take on the Antelope Rams of Wellton at home. This will be the Broncs first home game since their season opener Aug. 27, when they defeated Gilbert Christian, 44-17.
The Rams are in second place in the 2A Hassayampa region. They are 0-0 against their region opponents, 2-1 against 2A teams, and 3-1 overall. They are coming off a close win over Glendale Prep Sept. 17 on the road. This was a thriller that the Rams won, 36-34.
Game time for the game Sept. 24 with Antelope is 7 p.m. at Joe Bush Stadium.
The Broncs are currently in first place in the 2A Agua Fria region. They are the only team in the region that is still undefeated. They are 0-0 against their region opponents, 2-0 against other 2A teams and 3-0 overall.
