After two tough losses the week before, the Parker Broncs soccer team got back in the win column with a 7-3 win over the River Valley Dust Devils Thursday, Jan. 23 in Parker.
“This boost their confidence back up,” Coach Lonnie Lewis said.
The Broncs got on the board early, as Jesus Saucedo scored the first of his three goals for the evening with 33:45 left in the first half. The Broncs scored two more goals before the Dust Devils got their first one in the net with 14 minutes left in the half. Not even four minutes later, with 10:10 left in the half, Saucedo put another one into the net to get the Broncs a 4-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Tyler Robledo and Saucedo both scored early to give the Broncs a 6-1 lead. After River Valley scored, Parker’s Jaden Collier made his second goal of the night on a free kick with 5:36 left. It soared in an arc from where the kick was placed right into the net.
The Dust Devils scored again with 3:52 left in the game, and the final was Parker 7, River Valley 3.
Saucedo and Collier led Parker’s offense. Saucedo had a hat trick with three goals, while Collier added two goals, one in each half.
Lewis said the defense did a great job in holding off the Dust Devils. He particularly cited Aaron Gonzalez for his play.
The win put the Broncs above .500 against their 3A Northwest rivals, as they are now 3-2 against their region teams. They are in fourth place behind Northwest Christian, Odyssey Institute and Kingman. They are 3-4 against other 3A teams and 3-6 overall. They’re ranked 45th in Arizona Interscholastic Association power points.
The Broncs will have their final home game of the 2019-20 season Monday, Jan. 27, when they face the Heritage Academy Heroes of Laveen. This is also Senior Night. Game time is 6 p.m. at Joe Bush Stadium.
