It was a rough season for the Parker Broncs boys’ basketball team. They had mostly freshmen and sophomores in their line-up, and it was quite a learning experience. They endured a long losing streak in the middle of the season. However, they closed things out with a bang, winning three of their last four games and coming very close to making it four-in-a-row.
Leo Scott Jr. missed much of the season with an ankle injury, but he still made quite an impression when he played. He was named to the 3A West All-Region First Team. One of the few seniors on the team, Jason Rodriguez, made the All-Region Second Team. Jesse Carrillo and Trevor Elliot received Honorable Mention.
Bret Felsenthal of region champs Yuma Catholic was named Region Coach of the Year. Cameron Gates of Tonopah Valley was named Region Player of the Year.
The 2021 season for the Parker Broncs girls’ basketball team came to an abrupt end March 3 when one of the players tested positive for the coronavirus. Due to the protocols established by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, the team had to cancel their three remaining games of the regular season and was declared ineligible for post-season play.
At the time, the Broncs were enjoying a good season. They were in third place in the 3A West, and still had a good shot at making the state tournament.
Tallia Robledo and Casandra Sandoval were named to the First All-Region Team, while Tyra Robledo was named to the Second Team. Ernee McCabe received an Honorable Mention.
Yuma Catholic’s Bobby McGalliard was named 3A West Coach of the Year, while one of his players, Kylee Meerchum, was named Regional Player of the Year.
