The Parker Broncs Track & Field team participated in the Havasu Multiple Meet Wednesday, March 31 at Lake Havasu High School. In perhaps a sign of the times, there were fewer participants than there usually are at these events.
A total of six high schools participated: Lake Havasu, Mohave from Bullhead City, Lee Williams of Kingman, Kingman Academy, Salome and Parker.
In team scores, Lake Havasu won on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. The boys had 285 points, while the girls had 261.5. Mohave was second among the boys with 85 points and Lee Williams had 56. On the girls’ side, Lee Williams had 194 points, while Mohave had 53.5.
For the Parker boys, Trevor Elliot and William Gama proved to be the top runners. Elliot placed 12th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.57 seconds. He also placed 16th in the 200 meters at 26.7 seconds. Gama placed 20th in the 100 meters at 13.24 seconds. He placed 10th in the 400 meters with 59.6 seconds and ninth in the 800 meters at 2:33.49.
Jason Lyons and Vincent Tahbo were Parker’s top throwers in the field events. Lyons placed 20th in the shot put at 26 feet-6 inches. Tahbo placed 19th in the discus with a toss of 68 feet-5 inches.
For the girls, Taliyah Welch was the top runner. She placed ninth in the 100 meters at 14.61 seconds. She also placed third in the 300 meter hurdles at 53.68 seconds.
In the shot put, Demi Durham placed fourth with a toss of 29 feet. Stephanie Miller placed 12th at 21 feet-10 inches. Miller also placed 11th in the discus at 64 feet-8 inches. Maria Martinez was right behind her in 13th place at 56 feet-2 inches.
Durham was the Broncs’ only jumper on either the boys’ or girls’ side. She placed fourth in the high jump at 4 feet-2 inches.
The Broncs also participated in the MEC Invitational April 3 at Mohave High School in Bullhead City. However, as of press time, the results had not been posted.
The Broncs next meet will be Saturday, April 10 at Lake Havasu High School. This will be one of their bigger meets of the year, the Lake Havasu Rotary Invitational. The first events get underway at 9 a.m. Lake Havasu High School is located at 2675 Palo Verde Blvd. S in Lake Havasu City.
