It was an epic season for the Parker Broncs football team, as they made it to the Arizona Interscholastic Association state 2A playoff and hosted a playoff game for the first time in years. Not surprisingly, some Broncs received post-season honors from the coaches and athletic directors of the 2A Verde region.

Three of the four biggest awards went to the Broncs. Jeston Lotts was named 2A Verde Coach of the Year. Matthew Baumann was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Emanuel Alaniz was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Several Broncs made it to the first and second all-region teams in different positions. Many recognitions went to Parker’s linemen, who were solid all season on both offense and defense.

The following Broncs were named to the 2A Verde first all-region team:

Matthew Baumann, defensive lineman

Jake Hill, linebacker

Robert Solorio, defensive lineman

Zach Schneider, defensive lineman

Emanuel Alaniz, receivers/tight ends

Uriah Martinez, running back

The following Broncs were named to the 2A Verde second all-region team:

Emanuel Alaniz, defensive back

Fernando Gonzalez, defensive lineman

Manuel Najera, linebacker

Abraham Silva, offensive lineman

Manuel Najera, offensive utility

Christian Lopez Duron, receivers/tight ends

Jake Hill, receivers/tight ends

Receiving Honorable Mention were the following Broncs:

Kyle Dyer, linebacker

Fabian Lamas, quarterback

Wayne Miller III, defensive lineman

Jason Puhuyesva, offensive lineman

Tyson Ross, defensive back

Anthony Taylor, linebacker

The Broncs finished the regular season with a record of 3-1 against their 2A Verde opponents. They were 5-1 against 2A teams, and 9-1 overall. Their only loss was a 41-28 loss to the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights Oct. 4. They defeated the Antelope Rams, 20-0, in the first round of the tournament to reach the quarter-finals.

They fell to the Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils of Eloy, 50-12, in an Arizona Interscholastic Association 2A state tournament quarter-finals game Nov. 15 in Eloy.

Lotts said one game didn’t tarnish what was a great season for the Broncs.

“I’m proud of our season,” Lotts said. “We had a great season.”
