It was a split week for the Parker Broncs’ volleyball team as they took on two of their 3A West region rivals. On Tuesday, Sept. 29, they swept the Kingman Bulldogs, 25-7, 25-8, and 25-6 in Kingman.
It was a different story Thursday, Oct. 1, when they were again on the road and played the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. The Shamrocks won the match, 3 games to 1, but that doesn’t show how close the match was. The widest margin of any of the Shamrocks’ wins was just four points.
Yuma Catholic won the first game, 25-22. The Broncs came back to take the second game, 25-23. The Shamrocks took the third game, 25-21, and then won the fourth game, 25-23, to take the match.
“They’re a good team, and we’re a good team,” Assistant Coach Dany Maya said. “They’ve got some big girls on that team.”
Noting the Broncs and the Shamrocks are in the same region this year, Maya remarked that the Shamrocks are the team to beat.
“We’ll have to get them when they come and play here,” he said.
That will come Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the Shamrocks come to Parker.
The Broncs are now 1-1 against their 3A West rivals, and 3-1 overall. This week, they’ll play two more of the regional rivals. They’ll play the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at home. The varsity is scheduled for 6 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 8, they’ll be on the road again to play the Tonopah Valley Phoenix.
