The Parker Broncs football team ended their 2022 season on a sour note as they lost to the River Valley Dust Devils, 49-0, Oct. 28 at the Anderson Auto Group Field House in Bullhead City.

This was the Broncs’ third game in the 2022 regular season at the Field House, and they were 0-3 in those games against the Needles Mustangs, the Mohave Thunderbirds, and River Valley.

It was a season for many new things for the Broncs. They had many new players after so many of their seniors from 2021 graduated. They were in a new conference, 3A, and a new region, the 3A West. They also had a new head coach, Jeff Wheatley.

The highlight of the season was likely the game of Sept. 15, when the Broncs defeated the Wickenburg Wranglers, 21-13, at home. This was their first win of the season, and the first career win for Wheatley. Parker High also got to keep the firefighter’s axe that is the traveling trophy and the symbol of the long-standing rivalry between the two schools.

The Broncs finished their 2022 season with a record of 2-4 against their 3A West rivals, 2-7 against 3A teams, and 2-8 overall. They finished fifth in the seven-team 3A West. They were ranked 36th in the state.

While the Broncs didn’t qualify for the state 3A playoffs, the top team from the 3A West did qualify. The Mohave Thunderbirds, the No. 9 team, will play No. 8 Valley Christian on Friday, Nov. 4.

The 3A State Championship game will be played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, at Desert Vista High School in Tempe.
