Salome Frogs

After earning a bye in the first round of the Arizona Interscholastic Association state 1A football players, the Salome Frogs will be facing the Hayden Lobos in the second round game that will be played at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at Salome High School.

The Frogs are ranked No. 4 in the state in 1A by the AIA power point rankings. This gave them a bye in the first round. Hayden is ranked No. 5. They reached the second round by defeating the No. 12 St. David Tigers, 48-6, Oct. 25 at Hayden.

Like the Frogs, the Lobos are 3-1 in their region, the 1A East. They are 6-2 overall, just as the Frogs are 6-2 overall.

The winner of the Hayden-Salome game will face the winner of the game between the Williams Vikings and Arete Prep Chargers that will also be played Nov. 1. The Vikings are ranked No. 1 in the state, and also earned a bye in the first round. Arete Prep is ranked No. 8. They reached the second round by defeated No. 9 Anthem Prep, 34-22, at Arete Prep.

This third round game will be played Nov. 8 or Nov. 9 at Coronado High School.

The Frogs were not the only 1A West team to earn a bye in the first round. The Bagdad Sultans are ranked No. 2 in the state, and they also earned a bye. The Sultans will face No. 7 Mogollon on Nov. 1 at Bagdad. Mogollon defeated No. 10 Joseph City, 58-14, Oct. 25.

The state 1A championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at Coronado High School.
