The 2020 season for the Parker Broncs volleyball team came to an end Saturday, Nov. 14, when they lost to the Arizona College Prep Knights in the first round of the Arizona Interscholastic Association state 3A volleyball tournament. The Broncs were ranked No. 12 coming into the tournament, while the Knights were ranked No. 5. The Knights won in a sweep, 25-17, 25-13, 25-21.
The Broncs are coming off a regular season in which they were 8-2 against their 3A West rivals and 13-3 overall. They placed second in the 3A West behind the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. They reached the state tournament with 3-1 win over the Safford Bulldogs in a play-in match Nov. 10 in Parker.
The Knights went on to be swept by No. 4 Thatcher in the quarter-final round. The scores were 25-11, 25-19, and 25-18.
Thatcher will face No. 1 Northwest Christian in the state semi-final game at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 at Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe.
The only other 3A West team to make it to the state tournament, the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks, also lost in the first round. The Shamrocks, who were rated No. 10, lost to Nov. 7, Gilbert Christian, 25-15, 25-12, and 25-14.
Gilbert Christian lost to No. 2 Snowflake in the quarter-final round.
Snowflake will face No. 3 Valley Christian in the second semi-final match, which will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at Marcos De Niza High School.
The state 3A championship match will be played at 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 at Marcos De Niza High School.
