The Parker Broncs volleyball team got off to something of a shaky start on their 2022 season as they split two matches. On Aug. 30, they defeated Veritas Prep Falcons, 3 games to 1. The scores were 25-24, 21-25, 29-27, and 25-21.

On Thursday, Sept. 1, the Broncs went to Kingman to play the Kingman Academy Tigers. They came away with a 3-0 loss. The scores were 18-25, 20-25, 14-25.

On social media, Coach Marie Maya named Trevani Esquerra as the Player of the Match against Veritas. She said Esquerra had an excellent defensive game. She also praised freshman Katie Robledo, saying she demonstrated why she had earned a spot on the varsity team.

Sophomore Danika Durham was named by Maya as the Player of the Match against Kingman Academy. She had a hitting percent of 50 percent.

The Broncs are now 1-1 overall and are tied for third in the 3A West. This past weekend, on Sept. 2 and 3, they played at the Wolves Classic Volleyball Tournament at Estrella Foothills High School.

Assistant Coach Dan Maya said they want to play tough teams at these tournaments and in their non-region games. He said these games will be good experience for the young Broncs’ players, and will serve to make the entire team better.

They have two regular season games this week. They’re going to Kingman twice. On Thursday Sept. 8, they’ll again play Kingman Academy. On Friday, Sept. 9, they’ll face the Lee Williams Volunteers.

Due to the damage to the gym floor at Parker High, the Broncs do not have a home date scheduled until Wednesday, Sept. 21, when they are scheduled to play the River Valley Dust Devils.

In other county high school volleyball news, the Salome Frogs lost a match Aug. 30 to Tonopah Valley, 3 games to 0. The scores were 9-25, 8-25, and 19-25. The Frogs are now in fourth place in the 1A West. Their next match will be Tuesday, Sept. 6 at home against the Mountainside Wolves. They’ll follow that with another home match Thursday, Sept. 8 against the Mayer Wildcats.

Over the weekend of Sept. 9 and 10, the Frogs will play in the Spartan Volleyball Classic Tournament in Ash Fork.
