Baseball locked

The gates at Parker High’s baseball and softball fields will remain locked for a while longer. The school closures due to the coronavirus have been extended until April 10, and the Arizona Interscholastic Association has cancelled all school sporting events until further notice.

With the announcement that the statewide school closures will be extended to April 10, the Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced all school athletic events have been cancelled until further notice. The closure was ordered by Gov. Doug Ducey and Schools Superintendent Kathy Hoffman due to concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

The AIA has decided to wait until any decisions to reopen the schools are made and will then decide on the sports schedules.

AIA spokesperson Seth Polansky had this statement on the AzPreps365 website:

“Arizona Governor Doug Ducey recently announced that all statewide schools will be closed through Friday, April 10. With this directive, the AIA and its Executive Board must abide by this decision and require that all AIA member schools not partake in interscholastic competition until further notified.

The spring sports championships are still not cancelled at this point. However, discussions for the administration of any postseason tournaments will not take place until after schools are back in session.

The AIA will continue to monitor the communications from the governor’s office and make decisions accordingly. In the meantime, we want all of our student-athletes, coaches and teachers to stay safe and follow all health department advisories.”

In addition to not playing games or holding athletic events, Parker High School will not hold practices during this period. The AIA left it up to the discretion of the individual schools if they could hold practices or not.
