Win gives soccer Broncs a winning record in region

The Parker Broncs boys’ soccer team faced the ALA West Foothills Guardians Tuesday, Jan. 17 in Parker and came away with a 3-2 win. This win evened their overall record, and they now have a winning record against their rivals in the 3A Northwest region.

“It was as a very good game,” Parker Coach Lonnie Lewis said. “They battled back and forth but in the end, we took the win. Our Broncs were able to focus and push their way through the defense in the second half to score two additional goals which put us in the lead. Our goals were scored by Nata Morales, Tito Agular, and Ramone Hernandez with a header that put us back into the lead. With only two minutes remaining on the field clock, Ramon was able to header a ball into the goal for the winning score. 3-2 Broncs.”

The win left the Broncs with a 2-1 record against their 3A Northwest rivals, and they are third in the section after Glendale Prep and Anthem Prep. They are 3-3 overall and are ranked 29^th in the state in the 3A conference.

With their No. 29 ranking, Lewis said the Broncs are three spots away from a playoff spot. He said they have a good shot at making it.

“Our Broncs boys’ soccer is eager to get a playoff spot as this would be the first time going to a state playoff game in over 15 years,” Lewis said. “We have been putting in the work every day on the practice field with the boys really focusing on perfecting their game for the upcoming battles we need to win to get us to the playoffs. “   

The Broncs have two games scheduled for this week, both against 3A Northwest rivals. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, they’ll be on the road to play the ALA West Foothills Guardians. Their next home game will be Friday, Jan. 27 against the Wickenburg Wranglers. Game time at Joe Bush Stadium is 6 p.m.

On Monday, Jan. 30, the Broncs will play their final home game of the season when they face the Anthem Prep Eagles at 5 p.m. at Joe Bush Stadium. They’ll close out the season the following evening with a trip to Kingman to play the Kingman Bulldogs.
