The Parker High School football and volleyball teams got a big send-off to the state tournaments in their respective sports Nov. 1 from the Parker Fire Department. The athletes were given rides around the PHS campus on the department’s fire engines. These included one of the department’s pumpers, their ladder truck and their vintage Seagraves pumper.

The girls’ volleyball team faced Veritas Prep in the first round of the state 2A tournament the following morning in Phoenix. They were swept by Veritas Prep in three games, but the scores were close:  25-20, 25-20 and 25-23.

The football team traveled across the state to face Morenci in the first round of the state 2A tournament. They came away with a 57-6 loss.

Three firefighters drove the fire trucks for the athletes. Kody Ayers drove the ladder truck, Danny Wagner drove the pumper, and Karl Hartmetz drove the Seagraves truck.
