There were post-season honors for the 2022 Parker Broncs football team. The 3A West All-Region teams were selected by the coaches and athletic directors of the 3A West.
Broncs named to the first All-Region Team were Ezra Martinez as a defensive lineman and Elijah Fisher as an offensive lineman. Named to the second team were Damian Najera as a receiver/tight end and Gage Honomichl as a running back.
Receiving honorable mentions were Bryan Bojorquez as place kicker, Hayden Stallman and Maddix Young as quarterbacks, and Adrian Valdez as a receiver.
Mohave’s Rudy Olvera was named Region Coach of the Year. Yuma’s Manuel Garcia was named Region Player of the Year. Gavin Hogencamp of River Valley was the Offensive Player of the Year, and Jonathon Williams of Mohave was the Defensive Player of the Year.
The 2022 season was a time of new beginnings for the Broncs. Many of the players were young, they were in a new conference (3A), a new region (3A West) and they had a new coach, Jeff Wheatley. The Broncs went 2-4 against the new region rivals, and 2-8 overall. They placed fifth in the 3A West and were ranked 36th in the state in 3A.
One of the highlights was the Broncs defeated the Wickenburg Wranglers, 21-13, on Sept. 15 to keep the firefighter’s axe that is the traveling trophy of the rivalry between the two schools.
“It was nice to keep the axe in town,” Wheatley said. “I thought we came a long way this year. We gained a lot of experience, and that should make us better in the long run. Every game was close except for the last two.”
The last two games were a 55-6 loss to the Mohave Thunderbirds and a 49-0 loss to the River Valley Dust Devils. Both games were played at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse in Bullhead City.
