PHS volleyball v Safford

The Parker Broncs volleyball team is seen in action in the state tournament play-in match against the Safford Bulldogs Nov. 10 in Parker. The Broncs will face the Arizona College Prep Knights at the state tournament Nov. 14 at Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe.

The brackets for the Arizona Interscholastic Association 3A state volleyball tournament have been set. The Parker Broncs, who are ranked No. 12, will be facing the No. 5 Arizona College Prep Knights at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, in Gym B at Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe.

The Knights placed third in the 3A North Central region. Their region includes No. 1 Northwest Christian and No. 3 Valley Christian. They were 5-4 in their region and 10-4 overall. Their only losses were two each to Northwest Christian and Valley Christian. Both losses were three set sweeps.

The Knights played the Broncs Nov. 3 at Arizona College Prep. They won in a sweep, but the match was closer than a sweep would usually indicate. The scores were 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23.

The Broncs are coming off a regular season in which they were 8-2 against their 3A West rivals and 13-3 overall. They placed second in the 3A West behind the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. They reached the state tournament with 3-1 win over the Safford Bulldogs in a play-in match Nov. 10 in Parker.

The winner of the Parker-Arizona College Prep match will go on to play the winner of the match between No. 4 Thatcher and No. 15 Tanque Verde.

The only other team from the 3A West to reach the state tournament, No. 10 Yuma Catholic, will face No. 7 Gilbert Christian.

The 2A state championship game will be played Nov. 21 at Marcos De Niza High School.
