Peaches & Pits

Peaches to the Kansas City Chiefs for winning Super Bowl LIV (that’s 54, by the way). It took them 50 years to get back to the Super Bowl after defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 20-7, in Super Bowl IV in 1970. They did it in spectacular fashion, coming from behind to defeat the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20.

Peaches to the San Francisco 49ers. Like the Chiefs, they showed why they deserved to be at the Super Bowl. They and the Chiefs gave NFL fans quite a game.

Peaches to a Super Bowl match-up I’d like to see:  the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills. Both have lost the Super Bowl four times. You know one of them would have to win this one.

Pits to Jay-Z and Beyonce for sitting during the playing of the National Anthem. ‘Nuf said.

Pits to the politicians in Washington for the impeachment process and trial. Do you suppose you could get back to work at running the country? That’s what we elected you for.

Peaches to the Arizona Diamondbacks for landing Starling Marte in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The D-Backs will have three former Gold Glove winners in their outfield this season:  Marte, David Peralta and Kole Calhoun.

Peaches to the people of La Paz County and how well they support their schools, libraries and charitable organizations. It’s clear the people here care about their communities.

Peaches to La Paz Regional Hospital and their new urgent care and primary care facility. We can be grateful we have a hospital that can do so many things in a community this six. I suspect we wouldn’t have the off-road or boat races if this medical facility wasn’t here.

We want to know: who do you think deserves a peach? How about a pit? Send your ideas to the Parker Pioneer, P.O. Box 3365, Parker, AZ 85344. You can also send them to We won’t print your name if you ask us not to, but we do need your name on any submissions.
