Peaches & Pits

Peaches to the Phoenix Suns for making it to the NBA finals. As of this writing, the outcome is still unknown. No matter how it turns out, the Suns have had a fantastic season. No one predicted they’d even be in the playoffs, let alone the finals.

Pits to the bosses of the NBA. They must be tearing their hair out that two small market teams, Phoenix and Milwaukee, made the finals. That’s not supposed to happen.

Pits to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yes, they really did lost to the L.A. Dodgers, 22 to 1. I understand some of them wanted to play in the flog tournament (golf with baseball bats) in Parker on Saturday, but none of them could hit the ball.

Peaches to the flog tournament. It was fun for a good cause. There’s something crazy about watching people trying to hit golf balls with baseball bats. Maybe they should speed things up and play the “Benny Hill” theme.

Peaches to La Paz County for finding a bank that’s willing to handle them. Now, let’s get the county’s finances in order so we don’t keep going from one financial crisis to another every few years.

Peaches to all firefighters and first responders who go out and do their jobs in this heat. They know emergencies can’t wait. They have our respect and our gratitude.

Pits to anyone who wastes water these days. News flash:  we live in a desert. It’s called that for a reason. We need to start acting like it.

Who do you think deserves a peach? How about a pit? Send your ideas, in 40 words or less to the Parker Pioneer at You can also send them by mail to Parker Pioneer, P.O. Box 3365, Parker, Ariz. 85344.
