Peaches & Pits

Peaches to all student athletes as the school sports season begins. Here’s hoping you’ll play hard but clean. We hope you all have fun and there are not a lot of injuries.

Pits to security at Indian Health Services for telling a Pioneer reporter he couldn’t take photos of the new wing at Parker Indian Health Center. For their information, the Colorado River Indian Tribes has photos of the new facility on their Facebook page.

Peaches to the Bureau of Land Management. I know what many of you think of them, but even the BLM needs someone to say something nice about them now and then.

Pits to our two major national political parties. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again:  if what we’ve seen of the candidates for 2020 is the best the Republicans and Democrats can do, then we need new parties. Maybe we should do away with parties altogether. There’s nothing in the Constitution that says anything about political parties.

Peaches to everyone who’s been involved in fundraisers and making donations for rebuilding the homes of VFW Post 7061 and Eagles Aerie 4419. These organizations have helped our community. It’s nice to see the community helping them.

Peaches to efforts by government entities at conserving water. This includes Colorado River water and Arizona’s groundwater. We live in a desert. It’s called that because there isn’t a lot of water or moisture. All water resources in a desert are precious and need to be protected.

Pits to the Walt Disney Company for remaking live-action and CGI versions of their classic animated films. Have any of them been better than the originals?

Pits to Marvel and DC superhero movies in recent years. They seem to have forgotten that superhero stories are supposed to be fun and exciting, not dreary and depressing.

Peaches to the Parker Community/Senior Center. It’s amazing what Darla and her staff are able to do for area seniors. I hear all the time that seniors who are winter visitors say the centers in their home states aren’t as good as they one we have here.

Pits to all the talk I heard last week at the Board of Supervisors about levies. It was all so taxing!

We want to know: who do you think deserves a peach? How about a pit? Send your ideas to the Parker Pioneer, P.O. Box 3365, Parker, AZ 85344. You can also send them to
