Peaches & Pits

Peaches to all veterans of the D-Day invasion, those still alive and those who are no longer with us. The world owes you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Peaches to all the young people who have become lifeguards for the summer swim program. You have learned and are learning skills and responsibilities that will serve you for a lifetime.

Peaches to the Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce & Tourism for putting on the Tube Float. This is a fundraiser for them, but it also brings a lot of money into the community. It’s nice to see it back for 2021.

Peaches to the Parker Chamber for all they’ve learned in making the Tube Float’s new route a smooth operation. They had some real problems when they went to the new route in 2017 and ’18, but they had it down to a near science in 2019. Hopefully, this year’s float will be even better.

Peaches to Air Methods for the new medical helicopters they’re buying for their stations in the Colorado River Valley. These choppers will give them new capabilities and allow them to handle the heat better. I hope they’ll understand if I say I hope they’re not needed very often.

Peaches to those historians who are bringing to light such incidents as the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. We need to know our history, and a lot of history hasn’t been included in the history books. Only if we know the good, the bad and the ugly of our history can we really move forward to make this a more just nation.

Pits to the Republican Party. The GOP needs to stop focusing on and rehashing the 2020 election. It’s over and done. There are mid-term elections coming up in November 2022, less than 18 months away. The GOP is going to need a lot more than loyalty to former President Donald Trump and constant griping about the 2020 election if they want to win the mid-terms.

Who do you think deserves a peach? How about a pit? Send your ideas, in 40 words or less to the Parker Pioneer at ppioneer@havasunews.com. You can also send them by mail to Parker Pioneer, P.O. Box 3365, Parker, Ariz. 85344.
