Peaches & Pits

Peaches (again) to the Parker Broncs football team. They defeated the Willcox Cowboys on Friday, Nov. 12 and advanced to the state 2A semi-finals. They play Morenci Nov. 20 in Phoenix to qualify for the state finals. This will likely be their toughest game of the season so far. As Coach Jeston Lotts noted, they are down to the four best teams in the state. Everyone who’s left is very, very good.

Peaches to the Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce & Tourism for their Chili Cook-off Nov. 13 at County Park. It was a great show with some good eats. Next year, however, I’d like to add a booth giving away Tums, Rolaids and Pepto-Bismol.

Peaches to the Parker Broncs cross country team. They were rebuilding with a lot of freshmen, but they still had a good season. Keep working hard and getting stronger and faster. You’ll get your opportunities.

Peaches to Richard Lamb being named to the Arizona Western College Hall of Fame. It’s a fitting tribute to a long-time business educator in our region.

Pits to parade cancellations. First, it was the Native American Days Parade, then the Veterans Day Parade. Parades are a festive event for the entire community, and it gives those who participate a chance to show off what they can do. They help pull a community together. I just hope they don’t cancel the Parade of Lights in December.

Pits to vandals at the town’s parks. All it takes is a very small number of malevolent people to ruin everything for everyone else. If you see vandalism, report it. If you know anything about acts of vandalism, report that, too. We have to send the message that we will not put up with such destructiveness.

Who do you think deserves a peach? How about a pit? Send your ideas, in 40 words or less to the Parker Pioneer at You can also send them by mail to Parker Pioneer, P.O. Box 3365, Parker, Ariz. 85344.
