Phyllis Joy Gormley went home to be with our Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday July 9, 2019

Phyllis was born March 31, 1920 in Indianapolis, Ind. She passed peacefully at her beloved La Paz Regional Hospital.  She had just celebrated her 99th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Haas and Nema Joy (Mason) Haas; George R Barnett(first husband),Edward Gormley (her beloved Buddy!).Her son Robert J. Barnett  Sr. and grandson Robert J. Barnett Jr.  Her sisters Gwendolyn Jrs, Jaqueline (Peggy) Keller and brother Jacob (Jack) Haas. She is survived by Catherine Siegfried (daughter), Rita Root (daughter-in -law); grandchildren Joey Sherbine, Christian Siegfried; great grandchildren, Aubrey and Maribella Barnett, Jackson and Jamie Siegfried; Special nieces Karan Haas Murphy, Gail Haas Goebel, Tricia Walker, Kurt Keller and numerous other nieces and nephew, along with the special people in her life, Dana Holt and her special caregiver Catherine Dills.

Phyllis moved permanently to Parker about 1984 after retiring from her job as Medical Administrator for a group of Internists.    Phyllis quickly filled her retirement with volunteering. La Paz Regional Hospital and the Parker Senior Center became her special mantras. 

Phyllis served on the District Board of our hospital almost as soon as she moved here and was still active.   As a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary serving as President in 2000 and 2003 she chaired the scholarship committee for over 25 years.    She also was Involved with the local Elks Club with her husband Bud, and held several offices in the Does and GFWC-Parker Woman’s Civic Club, in which she held several executive board offices and handled their scholarship program for many years. Phyllis became very involved with the Senior Center in town. She was on the center’s board for many years.  One of the programs she helped get off the ground is the Meals on Wheels program now in place.

Phyllis loved the river and her water activities. She water-skied until she was 87.

Services for Phyllis will be held on July 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 1416 Reata Avenue in Parker.
