Funding through federal appropriation from Congress to the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program has been announced for La Paz County FEMA Board #025400 for Phase 37 and CARES. The National Board selects jurisdictions (cities or counties) for funding, not specific agencies.

The federal department responsible for this program is the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These are not state/county government or United Way funds.

The intent of the funds are to be used for food services, congregate meals or groceries, lodging in a mass shelter, or in a hotel/motel or other off-site shelter facility limited to a 30-days assistance per individual or household, one month rent or mortgage assistance to prevent eviction or foreclosure, utility assistance for one month of service for gas, electric or water service, supplies, including but not limited to cleaning supplies, and small equipment essential to feed or shelter people, not exceeding $300 per item.

Under the terms of the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:  1) be private voluntary non-profit or units of governments, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply. The local board will hold an open electronic meeting on June 4, at 1 p.m. via Zoom. Please email the local Board Chair Ashley Wood at for a copy of the application and to apply. The deadline for applications is June 3 at 5 p.m. The total award amount is $16,446.00 for the CARES portion and $11,535.00 for Phase 37 for fiscal years 2019-20.
