A man from Moreno Valley, Calif. died Friday, June 11 as a result of an explosion of a personal watercraft at River Shore Estates in Earp, Calif.

In a statement, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said their deputies arrived on the scene of a boating incident at 12:39 p.m. They found Buckskin Fire Department medical personnel and American Medical Response rendering aid to the victim of the accident. He was identified as Juan Pineda-Flores, age 48, of Moreno Valley.

Witnesses told deputies Pineda-Flores was attempting to start a personal watercraft that was still on its trailer on the launch ramp. The watercraft exploded, which the sheriff’s department said was due to fuel and vapors igniting inside the hull. Pineda-Flores was thrown from the watercraft into the water.

Pineda-Flores was brought to shore, where he received aid. He was transported to La Paz Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The SBC Sherriff’s Department had this statement on their Nixle site:  Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Deputy W. Poe of the Colorado River Station at (760) 326-9200. a preventable and needless tragedy. maybe kalistan can force all their boat and pwc operators to be licensed and charged appropriate fees for this. the sad statistic is that ALL of the fatal incidents on havasu and the river in the last month have all been from there. its pretty infrequent that arizonians are parties to this nonsense. don't believe it? ask any officer on the water. kalis are a breed unto their own. the trend cuts across all socioeconomic and demographic groups from kailzuela.
