The new Miss Arizona for 2019-20 is Jacquline Thomas of North Phoenix. The new Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen is Katelyn Cai, also of North Phoenix. They were crowned at the Miss Arizona Scholarship Pageant held June 19-22 at the Mesa Arts Center. Three local titleholders also competed, and they each came away with awards.
Jessica Aaker was crowned Miss La Paz County in March at the La Paz County Fair. She won the Miracle Maker Award for raising the most money of any of the contestants for the Children’s Miracle Network, the charity of the Miss America Organization. Miss La Paz County Pageant Director Aryn Romo said she could not have done this without the help of Anthony Rothacher at La Piazza Pizza.
Alexes Niekamp was crowned Miss Parker in March. She placed in the top 10 of the contestants. Romo described this as an “incredible accomplishment.”
“That’s very difficult to do,” she said.
Ellie Evans was crowned Miss Parker’s Outstanding Teen. She won the Excellence in Interview Award, which Romo described as “very exciting.”
La Paz County also had several girls participate in the Miss Arizona Princess program: Camilla Araujo, Maddie Salcido and Cali Booth.
“All of our girls did a very nice job and should be proud of themselves,” Room said. “The awards they earned are not easy to win. At the end of the night, only one girl can walk away with the crown. So it’s important that the girls do their personal best and walk away from the week having had fun and learned a lot through the experience. I hope to see all of the girls continue to compete.”
As for the winners, Thomas and Kai, Romo said, “Their wins were very well deserved and both of these ladies will be phenomenal state titleholders. They are both extremely talented, intelligent and beautiful.”
