Brian Dunann

Brian Dunann has been charged in the 2021 death of Johnny Beckham. Law enforcement authorities have been unable to locate him since July 2021. A vehicle belonging to him was pulled from the Colorado River with a body inside. Authorities are waiting for an autopsy report on whether the body was that of Dunann.

The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting autopsy results that they hope will identify the remains of an individual found in a vehicle pulled from the Colorado River. In particular, they want to know if this is the body of a man wanted in La Paz County for second-degree homicide.

The vehicle, a 2004 Range Rover, was submerged and pulled last week from the Colorado River near the BlueWater Resort & Casino. La Paz County Sheriff Will Ponce said it has positively identified as a vehicle owned by Brian Douglas Dunann, who is the suspect in the June 2021 murder of upriver resident Johnny Beckham.

Ponce said the autopsy will try to determine if the body found in the vehicle is that of Dunann.

As of Friday, May 6, Ponce said the body had not been identified.

On June 29, 2021, sheriff’s deputies were called to the 10000 block of Dreamy Lane is an unincorporated area of the county north of Parker. They found a man, later identified as Beckham, who had a single gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.

Dunann, whose family had a vacation home close to Beckham’s residence, was initially identified as a “person of interest” in the case. A complaint was filed on July 21, 2021, charging him with second-degree homicide-extreme indifference. Law enforcement authorities have, so far, not been able to locate him.

Dunann left the area in a Jeep, which was later recovered. He was believed to be driving the 2004 Range Rover that was recovered last week.

Ponce said that his department is not the lead agency on the case of the recovered Range Rover. As the vehicle was recovered from the Colorado River on the Colorado River Indian Reservation, the FBI is the lead agency in the case. The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office is providing support and waiting for the autopsy results to determine if the body recovered was that of Dunann.

On the “Justice for Johnny Beckham” Facebook page, Beckham’s relatives and friends made a plea for others not to harass Dunann’s family. They noted his family had nothing to do with the actions Dunann is charged with, and this is a very difficult time for them.
