Chili Flyer

Get your taste buds ready for something hot as The McMullen Valley Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 27th Annual Great Arizona Outback Chili Cook-off starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Centennial Community Center in Centennial Park between Wenden and Salome.

The event is about a lot more than just chili. There will also be a salsa contest, a four-wheel drive poker run, an art show, a quilt show, and a classic car show. There will also be a 50-50 drawing and Chili Cook-Off t-shirts for sale. There will also be entertainment in the form of dancers and music.

In addition, there will be many food vendors from non-profit organizations. Hamburgers, hot dogs and Mexican food will be available. There will be a beer garden on site.

The sign-ups for the off-road poker run begin at 9 a.m. Participants may sign up until 11 a.m., but they must be back from the run by 2 p.m.

The Salsa Making Contest begins at 9:30 a.m., while the Chili Cookers begin at 11 a.m. If you participate in these events, you must have a La Paz County Food Handlers’ Card. The first place cash prize is $100 for salsa and $200 for chili.

Awards will be presented at approximately 3 p.m.

Centennial Community Center is located in Centennial Park between Salome and Wenden. Attendees are asked not to bring food or drinks into the building. Bicycles, skateboards and pets are also not allowed. Service animals are welcome.
