A 12-year-old Mesa boy suffered major injuries when he was struck by a boat propeller while swimming in the Colorado River. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the boy was swimming near Emerald Cove Resort in the Parker Strip around noon on Saturday when he was struck by the boat.

According to Corp. Travis Vessells, the boat was driven by the boy's father, who was pulling other people on inner tubes.

The boy was flown to Phoenix Children's hospital for treatment of severe injuries, Vessells said.

The sheriff's department didn't identify the boy and his current condition was not immediately available.

Deputies responded to six boating accidents over the Memorial Day weekend between the California/Nevada state line near Laughlin and the Riverside County line near Parker.

Also over the Memorial Day weekend, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department made nine arrests for boating under the influence and two people were arrested for resisting arrest. Deputies also issued 32 citations.
