Tube Float

The Parker Tube Float is scheduled for June 8. The event draws thousands of people to the Parker Area each year.

One of the biggest events of the summer in Parker is this weekend. The 42nd Annual Parker Tube Float will be held Saturday, June 8. Floaters will travel down the Colorado River from Buckskin Mountain State Park to La Paz County Park. The theme this year is Float Town, USA.

The event is a fundraiser for the Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

“It’s a tourism-driven event that benefits all businesses in the area,” said Mary Hamilton, director of the Parker Regional Chamber. “It’s also a marketing device for the area.”

Tourism Director Lisa Whittier said the event shows Parker is accessible to a younger generation.

Whittier and Hamilton said it’s quite an undertaking to make this event happen every year. They added the Tube Float weekend has become, along with Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day, one of the top summer weekends in the Parker area.

“We get people from all over the country coming here,” Hamilton said.

The float will follow a format similar to that used in 2018. Floaters will park at La Paz County Park and, along with their deflated floats, take shuttles to Buckskin Mountain State Park. The floats will be inflated on the beach at BMSP, and the floaters will head down the river to County Park.

The fee for parking at County Park is $10 per vehicle, and payment must be in cash. No private vehicles will be allowed to enter BMSP.

The use of shuttles began in 2018 the year after the route was changed from County Park to the BlueWater Resort & Casino to the current route from Buckskin Mountain State Park to County Park. The 2017 float, the first year of the new route, saw long lines of traffic waiting to enter BMSP.

The route was changed due to complaints from residents on the route of trash in the river and floaters trespassing on their property.

The fee is $20 per person. Everyone who registers will need to sign a waiver to receive a wristband. Children ages 13 to 17 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by that parent or guarding. Children aged 12 and under may not participated in the Tube Float.

Each group is allowed to have one vessel with them, either a boat or a personal watercraft. The fee for each of these vessels is $25. These vessels must be pre-registered. These vessels must stay with their float group during the event. Vessels not associated with a float group will not be allowed in the event area. Operators of float vessels may not consume alcoholic beverages.

The organizers will provide trash bags for participants. Anyone found dumping trash in the river or on the land will be subject to removal from the event, as well as a fine and/or arrest.

Pre-registration can also be done at the Chamber Office at 1217 California Avenue in Parker.

The first 300 people who pre-register will receive a goody bag and a limited-edition Parker Tube Float tank top.
