Two people are dead as a result of a boating accident north of Parker the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Buckskin Fire Chief Troy Maloney said emergency personnel responded at 11:31 a.m. to an accident at Fox’s Resort. They found a single boat wedged under a dock at the RV area. There were two people trapped inside and three others who had been on the boat were on the dock.
One person, later identified as Ethel Fisher, was declared dead at the scene. Another person, who was identified as Walter Fouts, was transported to La Paz Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The other three people who had been on the boat declined treatment or transport.
Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Curt Bagby said the boat was traveling southbound.
“The operator changed direction and was unable to control the boat as he turned around,” Bagby said. “The deputies are attempting to determine if it was operator error or a mechanical malfunction.”
Bagby said the boat took the turn too wide and went under the dock at Fox’s. He added alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
The ages and hometowns of Fisher and Fouts have not been released. Sheriff Bill Risen described the people on the boat as being in their 70s.
Buckskin Fire sent two engines and their boat to the scene. The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office and Arizona Game & Fish were also on the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation of the accident.
