ADOT

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced pavement preservation projects for fiscal year 2019-20. Several of them will be in La Paz County. They are scheduled to start in the fall of 2019 be finished by the spring and summer of 2020.

ADOT allocated $36 million for multiple pavement preservation projects on highways across the state during FY 2019-20.

The goal of these projects is preventive maintenance. ADOT evaluated existing pavement conditions to identify locations in each of its seven districts that are currently in good condition. The goal is to undertake preventative-maintenance projects in those locations now so roadways remain in good condition. Making repairs after the roadway has deteriorated will be much more costly. Investing in preventative-maintenance projects is part of ADOT’s Long Range Transportation Plan goal of maintaining, preserving and extending the service life of existing the state’s transportation system infrastructure.

The projects are a mix of fog seals, crack seals and other actions which protect and extend pavement life. The current slate of 86 projects, which cover 4,160 lane miles, is scheduled to be under contract or completed before June 30, 2020.

Expect to see crews at work in different parts of the state during different times of the year based on outside air temperatures and other weather conditions. Generally, work is scheduled to begin in fall 2019 and continue in spring and summer 2020. ADOT will provide more specific information about project schedules and potential impacts as it becomes available.

Here are the projects currently planned for La Paz County. Exact dates will be announced later. The projects are subject to change.

In October, ADOT plans to apply oil from Milepost 0 (Ehrenberg) to milepost 28.85 (Gold Nugget Road) in Quartzsite.

Also in October, ADOT plans to flush the pavement on I-10 from Gold Nugget Road to Milepost 52 (Hovatter Road).

State Route 72

Sometime between November and March, ADOT plans to crack seal from Milepost 13.31 to Milepost 30 near Bouse.

U.S Route 60

ADOT plans to fill potholes on U.S. 60 from Milepost 47 (Vicksburg Junction) to Milepost 49.9. The dates have not been determined.

U.S. Route 95

In March, ADOT plans to do crack seal work from Milepost 70 to Milepost 95.6 (Blevans Road). They also plan to do crack fill work sometime from March through May from Blevans Road to Kuehn Street.

The projects are scheduled to begin in summer 2019 with completion by spring 2020 as shown in the above table.  The estimated construction dates will be updated as schedules are confirmed.

Lane restrictions or closures that impact travel could occur. Drivers should expect lane and ramp restrictions or closures and plan for possible delays. Drivers should slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
