The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced a temporary full closure of the Farmers’ Bridge in Cibola, starting Thursday, Oct. 1
Traffic will be detoured on California Highway 78 to the Oxbow Bridge for both northbound and southbound traffic. This detour will be 3.5 miles southeast of the Farmer’s Bridge.
The Farmers’ Bridge is one of the two entrances in and out of the community of Cibola. The bridge was built to replace an old pontoon bridge that was damaged by flooding. The farmers in the area raised the funds for the new bridge themselves, hence the name. The bridge was designed to handle vehicles like farm machinery. It is also used by school busses that serve Cibola.
The bridge has been discussed by the La Paz County Supervisors because it needs repairs and refurbishing.
La Paz County and ADOT ask motorists and others to please observe all signs and directions from staff in the area. The county apologizes for any inconvenience during this closure and thanks the public for their cooperation.
