HELEN A. MANN-ROLAND

Feb. 14, 1936 - Jan. 22, 2010

Helen A. Mann-Roland, a long time resident of Brenda and Quartzsite, Ariz., went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Jan. 22, 2010 at the family home in Brenda following a long term illness. She was born on Feb. 14, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Floyd and Erna Phillips.

She was raised in Dallas and attended school there. She worked at some of the biggest hotels in Dallas serving in the capacities of front desk person, bookkeeper, comptroller and general manager.

In 1969 she met Richard (Rick) Roland Sr., her future husband to be while he was competing in the Stockyards Championship Rodeo at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth. It was love at first sight for both of them, and in 1970, they were united in marriage in Las Vegas Nev. From there on Helen's life changed dramatically as she followed Rick all over the Western part of the United States from one rodeo to the next, working on one ranch and then another, from Havre Mont., to the Mexican border in Arizona, finally landing permanently at their home in Brenda in 1983.

They opened an RV appliance repair business in 1983 in Quartzsite, and named it Quartzsite RV Repair. According to Rick, "Helen had all the brains in the family" and with her expertise in bookkeeping and her sweet personality and the way she treated everyone equal, they soon had a big part of the business in their area.

She dearly loved her Chihuahua Rusty. Rusty was forever with Helen riding in her wheel chair wherever she went and he was right by her side in her passing.

She was a life long member of Friendship Baptist Church (dba/"God's Little Church In The desert") where she served as treasurer, secretary and for the last 24 years she was the church clerk up until the time of her death. She dearly loved sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with anyone that would listen to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her youngest sister Betty Lou McFarland and a brother that did not live long after being born, "little" Billy Phillips.

She is survived by her husband Pastor Richard (Rick) Roland Sr. of the home in Brenda; her sister Janette Vaughn; brothers Floyd George Phillips and Aubrey N. Phillips; her aunt Eunice Ebola; one daughter Betty Lou Davis; her step-son Richard (Rick) Roland Jr.; and three grandsons, Joshua Davis, Rick Roland III and Andy Roland. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends two numerous to mention.

She will truly be missed by everyone who had the special privilege of knowing her and she never met a stranger and helped anyone she could.

A memorial service will be held at "God's Little Church In The Desert" located in the Black Rock RV Village recreation hall, in Brenda, Saturday, Feb. 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone and anyone that knew Helen or Pastor Roland are invited to attend. Finger food will be served following the service.
